Guide Tube Collimators
The most common type of inline collimator is the side throw variety. This collimator attenuates radiation in all directions apart from one – projecting from the side of the collimator. The radiation is this type of collimator emits through a window that is conical in shape ensuring scatter radiation is not generated that could spoil a radiograph. The cone of this window is usually 50deg however in the Viking series this can be varied from 10deg upwards. The diameter of the collimator can be varied allowing the attenuation to be increased to reduce the risk of unnecessary radiation exposure.
The design of the SPS Viking allows the projector to carry out Close Proximity radiography with the simple attachment of a Close Proximity collimator.
